What Women Hate About Porn

Men love porn. I don’t know anybody that would try to dispute that. It’s also true that a lot of women don’t like porn. In fact, many of the men in my life just haven’t understood and have always asked me why women don’t like porn. Like most sexually related issues, this varies from woman to woman, but I can tell you that below are a lot of complaints I hear from women about most porn.

Porn is Degrading to Women
There are a number of women who don’t like porn because they find it degrading. While the image of a busty porn star gagging on her male co-star’s member might seem hot to you, it very well may seem disgusting to her. It could also be the rough back door sex or the male orgasm to the face. (Do not try that last one at home without a good warning). These images can make her feel out of control. We can definitely still be turned on by this kind of porn, but it sometimes feels a bit strange because our brain is telling us not to be turned on. We should instead find it sleazy.

Porn is Cheesy
Even guys should notice this one. Mainstream porn films contain some of the most contrived storylines, poor acting, and god-awful cinematography known to man. Trust me, none of us are looking for Oscar worthy scripts out of these things, but tell me the last porno you’ve seen without a ridiculous plot. Got nothing right? Their plots (and acting) are often so formulaic and bad because most porn is meant to draw you to its visual imagery. While that may be enough for you, it just doesn’t really do it for most of us.

Women are Insecure
If you know one thing about women, you should know that we are insecure. It varies from woman to woman, but rarely will you find a woman who isn’t insecure about something. Porn can magnify that effect because most female porn stars are perfectly thin, with huge breasts, and perfect vaginas. Porn is really the only opportunity where women get to see other women’s body parts – breasts, labia, and all. A lot of female porn stars have had cosmetic surgery to enhance the size of their breasts, or to perfect the appearance of their vulvas. Most women can’t—and can’t be expected to—stack up to that kind of woman. So it is very easy for us to feel inadequate and less pretty when watching porn (especially with our partners).

But wait just a minute. Don’t think this means that women don’t enjoy porn. Some of us do. In fact, millions of us watch and enjoy porn. We’re a curious bunch really. We want to see what other women’s bodies look like and what they can do with them. (And what we can learn from them). The problem is just that most mainstream porn is geared towards men. Men may not mind the contrived situations and like the displays of power and bodily perfection. That’s simply not what we’re after. We want to feel that the sex is real and that the actors are really into it. Trust me, more women would be into porn—if only there were better porn.
