Signs That Your Man is Taking Advantage of You

No one wants to admit it, but there are times in a woman’s life when she finds herself in the unfortunate position of getting the short end of the stick. For all the advancements made in making the world friendlier and more considerate for women, there are still men out there for whom women are nothing more than a delicate door mat. It may be a harsh realization to face up to, but you have to be aware of the existence of such people in order to be able to tell when you’re being walked on, and to pull the plug if necessary.

That said, you have to make a distinction between being taken advantage of and simply being expected to carry your own weight as an active partner in a relationship. Depending on your upbringing, you may or may not be used to having to put in your fair share, although your partner may expect that from you.

Before you express that you’re being taken advantage of, you first have to make sure that you are acting within reason. Once you feel almost certain that you do have a cause to complain, read through the telltale signs outlined below on how to find out if your man is indeed taking advantage of you.

1. He expects you to pick up after him. This is the most common way by which men take advantage of women. It may be due to his upbringing or maybe he still holds on to antiquated notions of men being superior to women, but you may find yourself having to pick up his dishes, clothes, shoes and other objects he purposely leaves around the house.

2. You shell out more than is fair. Some men out there expect to get a free ride, and if they do help out, their contribution is minimal.  Now of course it is only natural to expect women to pull their weight financially in this day and age, but there is such a thing as too much. If you find that your financial contribution is significantly higher than his, you may be getting a raw deal.

3. He places unreasonable demands on you. Does your man expect you to be available to him at all times, whether for chores, emotional support or sex? Are you to do things when he wants them done not when you want to do them?  These are classic situations that many women find themselves in, and it automatically places the woman in the subservient position in the relationship.

4. He enjoys certain privileges that you don’t. This is somewhat related to the previous point and it is a common scenario in which your man may go out "with the boys" whenever he pleases, while you aren't allowed the same privileges.  If you are finding situations in which, “he can” but “you can’t”, the advantage is certainly not yours.

5. He always gets his way. What all this points to, is the man getting his way more than is reasonable. It may be anything and everything from the points outlined above or it may be in the decision-making, but the bottom line is that one person unfairly holds control over the other…and you're on the losing end of the bargain.
